Each One Reach One

Each One Reach One

How did Giving Circles begin? Giving Circles started with groups of friends getting together to give back to their communities. The Membership Committee has decided that this year we would like to go back to that. We want you to invite your friends to join us. Who better than you to tell your friends why you are a member of this amazing organization? In 2011 we are having a membership drive entitled Each One Reach One. The idea is that we could double our membership and our giving if each member would bring in one new member. We will be having 2 wonderful social events for members who sponsor new members.  The first event will be held in May and the second in October.  If you sponsor a new member, you will be invited to the event with your new member.  We promise that these will be events that you will not want to miss.

We will be providing membership packets to each member.  The packet will include a membership application, a copy of our new e-newsletter, and information for both you and your prospective member on who we are.  You will be responsible for delivering the information to your friend and returning it to the Women’s Giving Circle. Make it personal!  The membership committee will be tracking new members and sponsors monthly via the new monthly newsletter.

We have just begun to define who we are and are excited about where we are going.  Please help us to continue to grow.  We have started the fire and need help to keep it burning strong.  When the flames continue to get fanned, amazing things can happen.  We believe that you can do this!!!

We are all available to answer any questions that you or your friends may have.

You can call Susan Barnes at: 910-483-4449 or Denise Lynch at 910-481-8562

Member spotlight: March 2011 Newsletter

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Our Women’s Giving Circle was formed just over three years ago, and we have more than 125 members with diverse backgrounds, activities, and accomplishments.  Our common bonds are our interests in philanthropy and our desire to advance our community.  Each newsletter will spotlight one or more WGC members, and this month our current Co-Chairs, who continue to chart and guide the path for the WGC, are our focus.

Christin Bellian is a nurse who graduated from the University of Virginia with a BS in nursing and from Case Western Reserve University with a MS in Social Administration.  She has worked as an ICU nurse, at the United Way of Cleveland, and for the American Cancer Society.

Christin came to Fayetteville with her husband Ken, an ENT doctor, and jumped into community life.  She has served on the boards of the Cape Fear Valley Health System Foundation, The Cumberland County Medical Society Alliance, Planned Parenthood of Central North Carolina, Fascinate-U Children’s Museum, and as President of the VanStory Hills Elementary School PTA.

In 2006, Christin was recognized by the Fayetteville Observer as one of its “Twenty Under Forty.”  She loves to ski, bicycle, climb, swim, hike, travel, and read, and on top of all that, she summited Mount Kilimanjaro (19,344 feet) five years ago!

Christin and Ken have two children, Lindley, 14, and Cameron, 12.

Kim Nagowski came to our community in 2008 from Buffalo, New York with her husband, Mike, who serves as Chief Executive Officer of Cape Fear Valley Health System.  She is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo with a BS in Elementary Education (PreK-grade 6) and a MS in Reading Education (Certified Reading Specialist) from St. Bonaventure in Olean, New York.

Kim worked as a banker before becoming a teacher in grades K-2 and a reading specialist in grades K-4.  She has also taught at the college level at Gannon University and SUNY College at Buffalo in the Education Departments.

Like Christin, Kim is active in community life and has served on several boards including the Cumberland County Partnership for Children, Fascinate-U Children’s Museum, and the Como Park PTA (NY).  Her interests include scrapbooking, sewing, photography, and blogging.  We are grateful to her for setting up our WGC blog:  http://womensgivingcircleofcumberlandcounty.blogspot.com/

Kim and Mike are the parents of three children, Ashley, 21, Nick, 17, and the energetic Victoria, 3, who was born in Vietnam.
